About this site

Fukuoka-only by design.

We don't cover Tokyo. We don't cover Kyoto. We focus on one city — Fukuoka — and on one decision: which hotel to book.

Last updated: May 2026

How we aggregate

Fukuoka Stays is built on cross-platform data synthesis. For every hotel covered, we aggregate publicly available signals across the platforms international travelers actually use:

  • Booking.com — guest scores, room counts, breakfast ratings
  • Agoda — verified guest reviews, room specifications
  • Google — local reviews and place data
  • Tripadvisor — long-form review context, traveler tags
  • Expedia — North American booker sentiment, package context
  • Hotel official sites — room specs, amenity disclosures, transit directions
  • Geographic & transit data — walk times measured on Google Maps, subway exit numbers from station diagrams, airport access against published schedules

Where platforms disagree, we say so rather than picking a side silently. Every score is shown with the platform name, review count, and the date we captured it. Specialist coverage, for us, means the consensus of thousands of guests across every platform that matters — organized for one decision.

What we don't do
  • We are not a booking engine. You book on Booking.com, Agoda, Trip.com, or another OTA — we just help you decide.
  • We don't accept paid placements. No hotel pays to be listed, and no hotel pays to be listed higher.
  • We don't accept gifted stays or sponsored editorial.
  • We don't show artificial urgency. No scarcity badges, countdown timers, or popups.
  • We don't generate hotel coverage with AI. Article copy is editor-written; AI tools are used only for research synthesis support.
  • We don't use AI-generated images of real hotels. Where atmosphere illustrations appear, they're labeled and never represent specific facilities.

How we choose hotels

We don't try to cover every hotel in Fukuoka. We cover the hotels international travelers are already deciding between by name — the properties that show up in their searches.

For category guides ("Best Family Hotels", "Best Luxury Hotels", etc.), we pair widely searched anchors with relevant alternatives that fit the category — including well-rated properties many travelers haven't encountered yet.

Coverage expands as demand expands. New hotels are added when traveler interest in them becomes observable; older coverage is retired when it stops being useful.

How we evaluate

For each hotel, we synthesize:

  • OTA guest reviews — Booking.com, Agoda, Tripadvisor; typically several hundred to several thousand reviews per property
  • Google guest reviews — for cross-reference and place-level context
  • Hotel official communications — websites, room specs, amenity disclosures
  • Travel press coverage — where established Japan travel media has reported on a property
  • Geographic data — walk times measured on Google Maps; subway times from official transit data; taxi fares from JR Kyushu / Fukuoka City transport disclosures

We cross-reference across these sources. When reviews consistently praise — or criticize — something, we surface it. When platforms disagree, we say so.

We do not modify or weight scores. A Booking.com 9.2 is shown as Booking.com's 9.2, with the platform's review count and the date we captured it.

What we update and when

Hotel coverage changes. Refurbishments finish, restaurants open, transit access shifts, prices move. We keep coverage current by:

  • Re-checking price ranges quarterly against current OTA listings
  • Updating individual hotel pages when reader notes, hotel announcements, or refurbishment news indicate change
  • Adding new properties as international search demand for them becomes observable
  • Date-stamping every page — the "Last updated" line tells you when we last verified the facts

If something looks stale relative to your trip dates, write in — reader-flagged corrections move ahead of routine refresh.

Affiliate disclosure

Fukuoka Stays is funded by affiliate commissions. When you click through to a booking partner from a link on this site and complete a booking, we receive a small commission at no additional cost to you.

Our current booking partners are Klook and KKday — travel platforms with comprehensive Japan inventory across hotels, JR Pass, airport transfers, and local experiences, widely used by inbound travelers from across Asia.

Affiliate relationships do not influence editorial decisions.

  • Which hotels we cover is decided by traveler interest, not commission rates.
  • The order in which we list booking partners on each hotel page is decided by which partners travelers in the relevant language region actually use — not by which partner pays the highest commission.
  • Selections and recommendations come from synthesis of public data, not partner preferences.
  • If we form a negative judgment about a hotel, we publish it — affiliate links do not override editorial honesty.

Editorial standards

  • Numbers are sourced and dated. Review scores include platform name, review count, and as-of date. Prices are indicative ranges, with the date captured.
  • Negative information is published, not suppressed. Small rooms, dated facilities, noise, distance from transit — if reviews consistently mention it, we include it.
  • Sources are linked or cited wherever specific data is not our own.
  • Hotel coverage is editor-written. AI tools may be used for research synthesis support; the published copy is editor-written.
  • AI-generated images are labeled "Illustration" and never represent specific hotel facilities.
  • Corrections are welcomed and published. Email us (see contact) and we'll correct verifiable errors — and credit the correction where appropriate.

Where else we publish

The Fukuoka Stays Editorial Desk also publishes longer essays and area explainers on Medium. A few recent pieces:

Who runs this

Fukuoka Stays is independently edited and published by bIT Inc., a Japan-based publisher independent of any hotel, OTA, tourism board, or destination marketing organization.

Editor: Jun Uchiyama. Editorial decisions — which hotels to cover, what to say about them, the order in which booking partners are listed — are made independently. No gifts, no sponsored stays, no commission-rate influence on coverage.
