Privacy policy

What we collect, what we don't, and what our affiliate partners do when you click through to a booking site.

Last updated: May 2026

In short
  • We use a cookieless, privacy-friendly analytics service to count visits in aggregate. We do not set tracking cookies of our own.
  • We do not collect names, email addresses, or accounts. You can read this site without signing in.
  • When you click a link to a booking partner (Booking.com, Agoda, etc.), that partner may set its own cookies to attribute the booking back to us. Their privacy policies apply once you leave this site.
  • We do not sell data. We do not run retargeting ads.

Who we are

Fukuoka Stays is a specialist hotel guide to Fukuoka, Japan, published by bIT Inc., a Japan-based publisher. See the About page for editorial standards and the contact page for how to reach us.

This policy explains what data is collected when you visit fukuoka-stay.com (the "Site") and how we handle it.

What we collect ourselves

We collect a small amount of anonymous, aggregate information so we can see what content is read and improve the Site.

  • Page views — which URLs were loaded, in what country, on what device class (mobile / desktop), and from what referrer (e.g. a search engine). This data is aggregated and does not identify you.
  • Approximate region — derived from your IP address at the time of the request. We do not store your IP address.
  • Server logs — our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) keeps short-lived request logs for security and reliability. These are managed by Cloudflare under their own policies.

We do not collect:

  • Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or login credentials — there is no account system.
  • Payment information — we are not a booking engine and never handle your reservation.
  • Precise location data.
  • Behavioral profiles for advertising.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics product. It does not use client-side state to track you across visits and does not build a profile of individual users. It tells us things like "this page received X visits this week from country Y" — nothing more.

We also use Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js) to understand which guides and hotels are most useful to international travelers, and to measure outbound clicks to our booking partners.

  • GA4 loads on every page with IP anonymization enabled. It sets first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*) used to count unique sessions and aggregate behavior.
  • We send only non-identifying data: page paths, event names, and event parameters (e.g. which hotel page was viewed, which affiliate button was clicked). No names, emails, or personal identifiers are transmitted.
  • We do not run Google Ads, do not enable Google Signals, and do not use GA for remarketing or advertising audiences.
  • How to opt out:
    • Install the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
    • Use your browser's private / incognito mode (session-scoped cookies are cleared at exit).
    • Block third-party tracking via a browser extension (e.g. uBlock Origin).
  • If you visit from the European Economic Area or United Kingdom and require explicit consent before any analytics tracking, please use one of the opt-out methods above before navigating further on this site.

Affiliate attribution script (Travelpayouts)

To support our partnership with Travelpayouts (our consolidation partner for Booking.com, Trip.com, and Expedia affiliate links), the Site loads a small attribution script provided by Travelpayouts on every page. The script:

  • Records that you clicked an outbound affiliate link from our pages, so the relevant booking can be correctly attributed to us.
  • Does not collect your name, email, payment data, or any directly identifying personal information.
  • Is operated by Travelpayouts under their own privacy policy.

If you do not want this attribution to occur, you can block third-party scripts with a browser extension (e.g. uBlock Origin) or use private / incognito browsing.

Cookies

Fukuoka Stays does not set any tracking cookies of its own. We do not use cookies for analytics, advertising, or personalization.

The Site may rely on strictly necessary cookies set by our hosting and security layer (Cloudflare) to protect the Site from abuse. These are not used to identify you across sessions.

Affiliate links and partner tracking

Many of the outbound links on this Site — particularly "Check rates on Booking.com" or "Compare on Agoda" buttons on hotel pages — are affiliate links. If you click one and complete a booking with that partner, we receive a small commission at no additional cost to you.

These links work by passing a partner identifier to the booking partner (in the URL) so the partner can attribute the booking. The booking partner then sets its own cookies in your browser to remember that attribution for a window of time (typically 24 hours to 30 days, depending on the partner's program).

Once you click an outbound link, you are on the booking partner's site, and their privacy policy — not ours — governs what data is collected. Partners we currently link to, or plan to link to as affiliate programs are approved, include:

Affiliate relationships are administered through Travelpayouts (our consolidation partner for Booking.com, Trip.com, and Expedia) and directly through the Agoda Partner Network. These networks set their own attribution cookies on the partner's domain (not on this Site) to track conversions.

If you do not wish to be tracked by a booking partner, you can: (a) not click the outbound link and instead visit the partner's site directly, (b) use your browser's private / incognito mode, or (c) clear cookies after clicking through.

Other third-party services

From time to time we embed publicly available information from third parties (for example, linking to a Google Maps location). Loading those third-party resources may cause those services to receive your request information under their own terms.

We do not embed social-media tracking pixels (Facebook, X, etc.) and we do not run programmatic advertising.

California (CCPA / CPRA)

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act. If you are a California resident and wish to make a data request, please use the contact address.

Children

The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided information through this Site (which would be unusual since we have no forms or accounts), please contact us.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change, and update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be summarized at the top of the page for a period after the change.
