Hotel MyStays Fukuoka Tenjin-South

Hotel MyStays Fukuoka Tenjin-South is a 177-room business hotel operated by Iconia Hospitality (formerly MyStays Hotel Management) in Haruyoshi — Tenjin's southern food-and-nightlife extension, hidden inside the izakaya cluster between Watanabe-dori and the Naka River. The property's defining advantage over its 217-room northern sister (Hotel MyStays Fukuoka Tenjin) is its 5-minute walk to the Haruyoshi Bridge yatai cluster, putting Fukuoka's most concentrated open-air food stall strip literally on the doorstep. Tenjin-Minami Station on the Nanakuma Subway Line is a 5-minute walk away, with Hakata Station reachable in 3 minutes by subway after the 2023 Hakata extension. The 2025 rolling renovation introduced Smart TVs with Netflix and YouTube streaming across all rooms, fresh Simmons mattresses, and a deeper upgrade for the Superior Triple (28–33 m²) category — the only room type now fully outfitted with ReFa showerheads and ReFa hair dryers. Other rooms run firmly compact (Standard Double 15–16 m², Comfort Twin 20 m²) and rely on the traditional Japanese unit bath. The position is also 10–15% cheaper than the northern Tenjin sister at comparable seasons. Honest trade-offs: an adjacent construction project running September 2025 through December 2026 generates daytime noise weekdays 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM (excluding Sundays), making upper-floor requests effectively mandatory; the 22-minute airport transit requires a Nanakuma-to-Kuko Line transfer at Hakata Station; and walking from Nakasu-Kawabata or Tenjin core with heavy luggage takes 10–12 minutes through the izakaya streets.

Getting there

How to reach the hotel

Practical access routes from the points international travelers actually arrive at — air, train, bus, and indoor walkway.

From Fukuoka Airport (FUK) — Domestic Terminal
Roughly 22 minutes door-to-door with one transfer. Take the Kuko Subway Line from FUK Domestic Terminal to Hakata Station (2 stops, ~5 min), transfer to the Nanakuma Line one stop to Tenjin-Minami Station (~3 min). Total fare ¥260. Walk 5 minutes east from Exit 6 to reach the hotel. The transfer is the main complaint vs the northern Tenjin sister property — but Nanakuma Line at Hakata is now a clean single-platform transfer post-2023 extension.
From JR Hakata Station (shinkansen)
Subway Nanakuma Line from Hakata to Tenjin-Minami (2 stops, ~3 min, ¥210), then 5 min walk. Walking is 14 min through Haruyoshi — atmospheric but luggage-heavy. Taxis run ¥900–1,100 and take 6 min.
From Hakata Bus Terminal (airport limousine / highway bus)
Same routing as JR arrivals — subway one stop via Nanakuma Line. The bus terminal is on the Hakata-guchi west side; transfer underground to the Hakata Station subway concourse takes ~5 min.
From Tenjin shopping core
A 10-minute walk south through Watanabe-dori and the Haruyoshi izakaya streets, or one stop on the Nanakuma Line from Tenjin-Minami back northbound. Most guests walk — Tenjin-Minami is functionally part of the broader Tenjin pedestrian zone.
Room advice

How to choose your room

Editorial recommendations drawn from aggregated guest reports — the trade-offs that aren't visible on the booking page.

  1. 01
Book the Superior Triple (28–33 m²) — the only fully ReFa-upgraded room

The 2025 renovation upgraded all rooms with Smart TVs and fresh mattresses, but the deeper amenity upgrade (ReFa showerheads, ReFa hair dryers) is exclusive to the Superior Triple category. The Standard Double at 15–16 m² and Comfort Twin at 20 m² are perfectly functional but use the property's older modular unit baths. For travelers paying for a Tenjin-area stay rather than a budget business hotel, the Superior Triple is the only room that delivers proportionate value.

  2. 02
Request an upper-floor room — adjacent construction runs through December 2026

A major adjacent construction project runs September 2025 to December 2026, with work weekdays 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM (excluding Sundays). Daytime sleepers, remote workers and light sleepers consistently flag the noise and vibration in OTA review comments from late 2025 onwards. Adding an "upper floor request" (上層階リクエスト) at booking materially reduces the disruption — the front desk does honour requests when capacity allows.

  3. 03
Use this property if Nakasu yatai is your priority — not if airport speed is

Tenjin-South's structural advantage is the 5-minute walk to the Haruyoshi Bridge yatai cluster — Fukuoka's most concentrated open-air food stall strip — and immediate access to the Haruyoshi izakaya neighbourhood. The structural disadvantage is the Nanakuma-to-Kuko transfer for FUK airport access, which adds 8–10 minutes vs the northern Tenjin sister. Travelers planning multiple late-night yatai dinners will choose this property; travelers prioritising 6 AM departures or multiple airport runs should pick the northern sister.

  4. 04
Take the OTA rate — direct booking perks are thin

Iconia's direct-booking discount and GoTo Pass loyalty save roughly ¥500–1,000 per night versus OTAs, and the points only accrue across multiple stays at chain properties. For international visitors on a single Fukuoka trip, consolidating loyalty points in your preferred OTA usually yields better total economics than the direct discount.

Frequently asked

What travelers ask about Hotel MyStays Fukuoka Tenjin-South

  • Is there daytime construction noise at the hotel? +

Yes — a major adjacent construction project is ongoing through late 2026, with work typically occurring from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, excluding Sundays. Travelers planning to sleep in or work from the room should request an upper-floor room to minimize the disruption.

  • Are the standard rooms large enough for two suitcases? +

No — the base Standard Double rooms are 15 square meters with very little floor space. Guests traveling with multiple large bags consistently recommend upgrading to the Comfort Twin or Superior Triple for enough room to unpack.

  • Is the Haruyoshi neighborhood safe and lively at night? +

Haruyoshi is Fukuoka locals' favored hidden-gem izakaya neighbourhood — active in the evenings with restaurants and bars within a 1-minute walk of the hotel entrance. It is considered safe; Fukuoka is among Japan's safest major cities. The Haruyoshi Bridge yatai cluster is a 5-minute walk south for late-night open-air dining.

  • Is Hotel MyStays Fukuoka Tenjin-South suitable for families with children? +

There are no dedicated children's facilities noted for this property. The Comfort Twin (20 m²) is the practical minimum for a family with luggage; Standard Double at 15–16 m² is too tight for two adults plus a child's gear. The Haruyoshi izakaya cluster surroundings are adult-focused; Canal City Hakata (8 min walk) is the better family dining and entertainment destination.

  • Is the breakfast at Hotel MyStays Fukuoka Tenjin-South worth adding? +

The Japanese/Western mini-buffet (approximately ¥1,500, 7:00–9:30) features a daily specialty curry and Hakata regional items. It is a modest but functional option for guests heading out early; the Haruyoshi izakaya neighbourhood and nearby Canal City offer alternatives at similar or lower cost.

  • Does Hotel MyStays Fukuoka Tenjin-South have a public bath or onsen? +

No — there is no public bath on-site. All rooms use private unit baths. Guests seeking a communal bathing experience will need to travel to a sento or onsen facility elsewhere in Fukuoka.

  • Can I pay with Alipay, WeChat Pay or UnionPay at Hotel MyStays Fukuoka Tenjin-South? +

Yes — Alipay, WeChat Pay, and UnionPay are accepted alongside Visa, Mastercard, Amex, and JCB.

  • Can I store luggage before check-in or after check-out? +

Yes — luggage hold is available both before check-in and after check-out. Tenjin-Minami Station (Nanakuma Line, Exit 6) is a 5-minute walk.
