Grand Hyatt Fukuoka

The only international five-star property in central Fukuoka, directly connected to Canal City Hakata shopping complex via covered indoor access, with a 25-meter indoor pool, full-service spa (Club Olympus / AN SPA FUKUOKA), and five on-premises restaurants — including Fukuoka Nadaman (kaiseki) and Bar Fizz overlooking Canal City's fountain shows. Reviews consistently mention spacious rooms by Japanese standards, deep soaking tubs with separate showers, the quality of breakfast at The Market F, and the consistency of English-language concierge support. Standard room decor reads as "classic 1990s luxury" to some travelers, and the Grand Club lounge becomes crowded on weekends — but the property remains the family-luxury anchor for Hakata.

Getting there

How to reach the hotel

Practical access routes from the points international travelers actually arrive at — air, train, bus, and indoor walkway.

From Fukuoka Airport (FUK)
Two-leg subway, ~25 min total, ¥260 fare. Kuko Line from FUK to Hakata Station (5–6 min), transfer to the Nanakuma Line for one stop to Kushida-jinja-mae Station (Exit 2), then a 4-minute covered walk. Taxi is faster at 15–20 min for around ¥2,000.
From JR Hakata Station (shinkansen)
10–15 min walk (~1 km) due south through the Hakataeki-minami blocks. Alternatively, one stop on the Nanakuma Line to Kushida-jinja-mae. Travelers with heavy luggage should opt for the subway or a short taxi (¥800).
From Hakata Bus Terminal / airport limousine bus
12–15 min walk (terminal is adjacent to JR Hakata). Limousine buses from FUK International Terminal stop at the bus terminal, useful since the subway only serves the Domestic Terminal.
From Canal City Hakata (indoor approach)
Direct covered indoor access from the hotel lobby into the Canal City complex — stroller-friendly and weather-independent. The single most-cited convenience in guest reviews; matters most on rainy days and with kids.
Room advice

How to choose your room

Editorial recommendations drawn from aggregated guest reports — the trade-offs that aren't visible on the booking page.

  1. 01
Pay up for a Grand Club Floor room when staying weekends

Standard rooms read as "classic 1990s luxury" to several reviewers — high quality but visually dated. The Club Floor rooms are refreshed, plus lounge access covers breakfast and evening canapés (cost-justified for two-night stays).

  2. 02
Skip the Grand Club lounge on Saturday nights and holidays

Multiple FlyerTalk and Booking reviewers report the lounge becomes overcrowded on weekends with guests being held outside. If your stay is weekend-only and lounge access is the reason you're paying up, consider a weekday booking instead.

  3. 03
Book the Japanese Style Suite (85㎡) for families of three or four

Tatami suites with futon bedding are the property's family unicorn — comparable luxury hotels in Fukuoka don't offer them. Connecting rooms exist, but the tatami suite gives more usable floor space and a uniquely Japanese stay for first-time visitors.

  4. 04
Confirm pool/spa access if you have tattoos or are traveling with children under 18

Visible tattoos may be denied at the pool and spa. Children 17 and under cannot use the pool or fitness center except during designated family-holiday periods. Both policies are worth confirming with the concierge before booking if either applies.

Walking distance from the lobby

Walkable points editors flag as material for choosing this hotel — not a full neighborhood guide, just what changes your decision.

The largest concentration of nighttime yatai (open-air food stalls) along the Naka River — Fukuoka's signature evening experience.

  • 5 min

The spiritual home of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival (July) — the festival floats are staged in the immediate neighborhood and pass directly past the hotel.

  • 8 min

Cross the Naka River to reach Hakata's other shopping anchor and the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum on the 7th–8th floors.

  • 2 min

Frequently asked

What travelers ask about Grand Hyatt Fukuoka

  • Is the Grand Club Lounge worth the upgrade? +

Mostly yes — guests consistently praise the club breakfast and evening canapés, with the sashimi spread and fresh seafood don frequently highlighted. The caveat: the lounge gets crowded on weekends, sometimes with a brief wait to enter.

  • Do all guests get free access to the gym and 25m indoor pool? +

Yes — standard registered guests use the 25-meter indoor pool and fitness center at no extra charge. The Club Olympus / AN SPA FUKUOKA spa treatments and onsen access carry a separate fee unless bundled in your room tier.

  • Is the hotel actually connected to Canal City Hakata indoors? +

Yes — the hotel is physically integrated with Canal City Hakata, giving guests direct indoor access to the 11-story shopping and dining complex without stepping outside. This is rain- and summer-heat-proof in practice.

  • Is the area around Grand Hyatt Fukuoka lively and safe at night? +

Sitting in Sumiyoshi between Canal City Hakata and the Naka River, the location is central and animated — Canal City's evening fountain shows are steps away (reached indoors), and the Nakasu yatai are about 10 minutes on foot. Fukuoka is among Japan's safer big cities and this stays a well-trafficked area into the evening.

  • Is Grand Hyatt Fukuoka a good choice for families? +

It's the family-luxury anchor for Hakata: 85㎡ Japanese-style tatami suites and connecting rooms are available, and the 25m indoor pool is a draw. Two policies to confirm if they apply — the pool is restricted to guests 18+ outside designated family-holiday periods, and visible tattoos may be denied at the pool and spa.

  • Is the breakfast at Grand Hyatt Fukuoka worth it? +

The buffet is one of the most-cited positives in English-language reviews, particularly for the range of Kyushu local ingredients. Grand Club Floor rates include lounge breakfast as an alternative to the main restaurant.

  • Does Grand Hyatt Fukuoka have an onsen or spa? +

Yes — the Club Olympus / AN SPA FUKUOKA facility includes spa treatments and bath access, carried as a separate fee unless bundled in your room tier. Guest rooms also have deep soaking tubs with separate showers.

  • Can I pay with Alipay, WeChat Pay or UnionPay at Grand Hyatt Fukuoka? +

Yes — Alipay, WeChat Pay and UnionPay are accepted alongside major credit cards.

  • Can I store or forward luggage at Grand Hyatt Fukuoka? +

Yes, the hotel offers luggage hold and forwarding. The direct covered access into Canal City Hakata also makes arrival stroller- and luggage-friendly in rain or summer heat.
